Studio Policies

  • Members and students may come practice whenever the studio is open. If there is a class in session, students in that class get priority for wheel usage. You may ask the teacher to use a wheel in the class area if there is an are empty wheels 15 minutes after class has started.

    Workshops do not come with open studio time.

  • Wheels: If you are trimming, scrape and toss any clay bits, then mop. If you are throwing, mop only.

    Hand building table: scrape and throw away any clay bits on the ground, then mop. Wipe down table with fresh sponge.

    Glaze table: mop around area and wipe down table with fresh sponge.

    Tools: clean tools with fresh sponge and return to tool area.

  • 8-Week Class

    Your first 8-week class includes one bag (25 pounds) of clay. Students will have to purchase clay by the bag (25 pounds) for subsequent classes.

    Students may purchase up to 2 bags (50 pounds of clay per semester of 8 weeks).

    Students must store their clay on their shelves.

    Membership

    Members may purchase or use up to 2 bags (50 pounds) of clay per month.

  • Please find a staff member to purchase clay or email us. If you email us, we will send you an invoice and put the clay on your shelf.

    Sold by the bag (25 pounds), includes glazes and firings

    • Speckled stoneware (Standard 112): $50

    • Dark brown stoneware (Standard 211): $50

    • White stoneware (Standard 240G): $50

    • Porcelain (Standard 551): $70

  • Students and members may recycle their own clay or put trimmings/flopped pots in studio reclaim buckets.

  • For now, outside clay is not allowed. Students and members must use clay provided by the studio.

    If you are super passionate about using a certain clay, email us and we can chat about it.

  • Our current limit is that pottery pieces must fit the size of our biggest kilns (Skutt 1227). We may revisit this policy if it becomes an issue.

  • Students and members are required to sign their pots to make them easier to identify. We will collect everyone’s signatures and may put your bisque or glazed pieces on your shelf.

  • NO DRY SANDING INSIDE THE STUDIO. We are serious about dust in the studio and we do not allow dry sanding in the studio.

    You may wet sand using plenty of water.

    Scrape first, then mop or use a wet sponge to clean up any dried clay or glaze.

  • If students miss their schedule class, they may attend a different class to make up the missed class. Let the instructor know prior to beginning of class that you are making up a class.

  • Members and students are allowed to use outside commercial glazes. You must test the glaze to see how runny it is with a cookie prior to using it on multiple pieces.

    If you’d like to use a homemade glaze, please email the studio for approval. We may require a sample for testing.

    If you are unsure about the policy, email us or talk to a staff member.

  • Workshop: Your pottery pieces will be ready in a month. Please email or call us to check that it is ready for pick-up. Workshop pieces will be kept in the studio for three months. We can ship your pieces to you for a $20 fee, email us with your name(s) and date of workshop to arrange shipping.

    Class/Membership: Student/member bisque and glaze work will be kept in the studio for two months after being fired.

  • Members and students are allowed 2 guests per month. Guest passes cost $25 and include 4 pounds of clay (taken from general pile). Guest pass includes time spent in the studio making, trimming, and glazing. Their pieces will be stored on their host’s shelf.

    Guests must be accompanied by their host at all times and must adhere to all studio policies. Guests must sign in prior to starting any work.

  • Please send all cancellations via email.

    Workshop

    • If you cancel 72 hours before the workshop, you will receive credit to book a workshop for another time

    • If you cancel less than 72 hours before the workshop, you will not be refunded

    8-Week Class

    • If you cancel 7 days before the first day of class, you will receive 100% refund minus $40 administrative fees

    • If you cancel within 4 to 7 days before the first day of class, you will receive 50% refund, minus $40 administrative fees

    • If you cancel with less than 4 days before the first day of class, you will not receive a refund

    Membership

    • Cancellations must be submitted before the 1st of the month and require a 14-day notice

    • Cancellations are not prorated for partial months

    • Shelves must be cleared after cancellation to avoid being charged on the 1st

    • Membership initiation fee of $50 is non-refundable

  • Do not handle other peoples’ pottery pieces (greenware, bisque, or glazed). If something must be moved, ask a staff member for assistance.

    Do not take or use tools from other students’ or members’ shelves.

    Cozy Clay is not responsible for stolen or damaged goods and/or possessions.

    All personnel are responsible and accountable for their own possessions. 

  • Cozy Clay is an inclusive space where everyone is treated with respect. Cozy Clay reserves the right to deny services to those who is and may jeopardize the public atmosphere of the studio and the safety and peace of others. Any level of misconduct may result in the termination of enrollment or membership. We reserve the right to deny services to those who are knowingly disrespectful of the space and or the community and its members.
